WRITING (Grades 5 to College)

     The writing process is my specialty.  We'll tailor a program that will help your child become a clearer and more convincing writer.  My joy is helping students articulate their thoughts.  We can focus on essay writing, grammar, or creative projects.

     I enjoy helping students with all stages of the college essay writing process.

READING (Grades 5 to 12)

      Whether your child needs help developing reading comprehension strategies, choosing great books, or studying difficult textbooks, I can help.

     By drilling/reteaching basic math facts, practicing tricky new concepts, or pre-teaching upcoming skills, I can help build math confidence and give your child a new daring and curiosity about numbers.

SOCIAL STUDIES and SCIENCE (Grades 5 to 12)

     Studying for tests, completing essays, and planning projects can all be overwhelming.  I can offer organization, study, and background-building strategies that will allow your child to find more enjoyment and success in these challenges.

Note: My science teaching background is limited to middle school level earth science and biology.

SPANISH (Intro and Intermediate)

     I learned to speak Spanish while living in Ecuador.  I offer conversation practice, help studying for tests, and help with grammar and verb tense confusions.

Note:  I can offer the same services to beginning French students.

SKILLS FOR SUCCESS

     I help students develop habits that will support their success.  These include: personal organization, time management, keeping an agenda, setting and reflecting on goals, managing personal engery and attention, learning to prioritize, note taking, memorization tips, and improving communication with teachers.

SAT PREPARATION

     I offer test-taking strategies and support preparing for any of the college entrance examinations.  We will develop a program tailored to your needs.  Some students need a basic algebra, geometry, and statistics review course; some need support building vocabulary; some need to develop their critical reading and writing skills.  I offer curriculum in all of these areas, or we can choose to address them by scheduling homework help sessions with a focus on targeted skill building.  If you're looking for a quick overview, try my SAT crash course.

SAT CRASH COURSE

     Sign up for 2 4-hour workshops designed to familiarize you with the SAT, teach you test-taking strategies, and give you practice with the skills you will need to do well on the test.

FOR HOMESCHOOLERS AND OTHERS

     I am available to facilitate student projects of all sorts.  I am eager to work with students being homeschooled and open to developing investigations and projects.
